Unearthly Garden

January 22, 2012 12:00 pm to January 28, 2012 5:00 pm January 22, 2012 12:00 pm to January 28, 2012 5:00 pm

Unearthly Garden curated by Carolyn Dew

Artists: Angela Bailey, Magdalena Bors, Carolyn Dew, Marian Drew, Lee Grant, Peter Lambropoulos

The garden is wilderness tended. Forces of culture also shape it.  These forces are always in tension. The perfect garden imagined exists at a juncture when these tensions are at an optimum. A specimen matured bearing perfect fruit. Flowers in full bloom. Plants defined as weeds are absent, the scene basking either in warm sunlight or light shade. Ideal.

The imagined garden is elusive. It can only occur in time and space for just a moment, if ever. Often the garden remains the husk of an idea.

The photographs in this exhibition detail the cultural imperatives behind the imagined garden and the impossible quest to challenge unpredictable and uncontrollable aspects of environment and of life.  To capture an ideal.

Exhibition Runs till 28 January 2012

A new website to help you build sustainably.

Australian Living, a leading Sustainable Building Consultancy, has developed a website called Your Future Home

Your Future Home

When it comes to sustainability, design, thermal comfort and material choice can have a significant impact on the health benefits of an environmentally friendly home. However, sustainability is still being treated as an add-on instead of being brought to the core of building design.

Enter Your Future Home. This website guides the community in the right direction by providing the keys to a truly sustainable home and has been developed in a way that is both informative and, easy to read and navigate.

Your Future Home can be used as the first step guide when preparing to renovate or build a home. It breaks down the five keys to success of a sustainable building, describes how to choose environmentally friendly materials and includes a virtual tour of a truly sustainable home.

Your Future Home would not have been possible without the support of its major sponsors Boral, CSR and Kingspan. These companies are leading by example and are committed to increasing the awareness of sustainable homes.

Artists Call Out: Jezzine Barracks redevelopment project (Townsville)

Dear artists,

I work for the Jumbana Group, a design and strategy company. We have been contracted by the Jezzine Barracks Community Trust as Project Consultants to artistically represent both the Aboriginal history and the military history of the site. The Jezzine Barracks in Townsville is being redeveloped into a public art precinct.

We are looking for Queensland 2D artists, 3D artists and practitioners such as those working in glass, metal, wood and stone. Experience with large scale and exterior installations is not necessarily required, as partnerships may be formed later to build and install.

If you might be interested in being a part of this exciting project, please submit your CV/profile and brief examples (inc photos) of your previous work to info@jumbana.com.au. You do not need to come up with a proposal.  Deadline for submissions is 31 January 2012.

If you know of any other artists/sculptors/practitioners, please email them with this information or give me their contact details and I will get in touch with them. This will be a huge project, and it would be great to get as many Queensland artists/sculptors/practitioners involved as possible.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email if you’d like any further information. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards,

Anna
