Located in Southern Tasmania’s woodchipping heartland in the town of Huonville, the Huon Valley Environment Centre stands against incredible odds and is a brave beacon to the community.

Huon Valley Environment Centre is a not-for-profit volunteer run organization in Southern Tasmania which campaigns for Tasmania’s threatened World Heritage value southern forests and promotes sustainable living.

Huon Valley Environment Centre remains a defendant in the Gunns 20 case, Gunns Ltd – the giant Tasmanian logging company – is suing 20 environmental activists and organisations for $6.3 million.

The Black Sassy Collective is a community collective of artisans, poets, creatives and musicians, inspired by the wilds of Tasmanaian forests, rivers and seas.

It focuses on encouraging and empowering, inspiring and educating peoples about the beauty and integral nature of being part of these wild lands. Black Sassy Art Collective holds an annual collaborative exhibition called Weld Echo.

A collaborative exhibition of works inspired by the wild Weld Valley in Southern Tasmania. A fundraiser for the campaign to protect the Lower Weld Valley from industrial logging.

Weld Echo exhibition in Melbourne was held at FAD Gallery, 14 Corrs Lane, Chinatown, Melbourne. 26th Aug - 15th Sept 2009. Official opening on the 26th of August.

 

This exhibition was also held at Long Gallery, Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart - 17 - 25 June 2009.

 

Weld Echo is an important fundraiser for the campaign to protect the Lower Weld Valley.

    I have a son, Neal who has done some fantastic artworks about our natural landscapes when he did his Honours and some recent artworks that he exhibited earlier this year at WattSpace Gallery, Newcastle, i.e., if anyone is interested.
    I am also very, very interested in how this earth of ours is desigrated and scorched ( the exhibit that I refer to above was called Scorched Land I think where he depicted a burnt out tree that was reduced to a small stump)!
    I vermentally hope that the logging will be stopped in these wonderful landscapes of ours and those others of other countries where the “all-mighty-dollar” is suppose to be
    the “best” way to live!!!!
